MANY Birkenhead High School girls are celebrating their A Level results as 64 per cent of all the results were A or B grades; 81 per cent were A, B, or C grades.

Three girls, Rachel Bowes from Wallasey, Naomi Foster from Eastham, Frances Lecky from Neston achieved five grade As. Rachel will be going to Girton College, Cambridge, to study History, Naomi will read Natural Sciences at Newnham College, Cambridge, and Francis will be going to York to study English. Nine more girls achieved four grade As and they will be studying courses as diverse as Chemical Engineering, Veterinary Science, Law and Geography.

Headmistress Mrs Evans said: "I am absolutely delighted with these results. They reflect the hard work of both staff and pupils. Once again the girls have lived up to our expectations."

BIRKENHEAD School A Level results had just over one third of the total of 84 candidates gaining at least three grade A passes, with 13 candidates achieving four grade As and seven achieving five grade As. Seventy-eight per cent of all papers sat achieved A-C standard.

Headmaster Stuart Haggett is pleased with this figure since it means that so many candidates are now strongly placed to move on to the best universities. He congratulated all candidates and their teachers on these results and the hard work they reflect.
