From G.P. Hughes:-

A SPORTING cyclist for 50 years, I only recently visited the Wirral Way on two wheels. I had no problems except for nettles and cycling teenage tearaways whose headlong rush bothered me.

My own progress reflects bus pass ownership and a chat line designed to disarm!

Critics should consider that, as with roads, facilities like the Wirral Way - and there are many now in Britain - are for communal use.

Motorists tend to believe they pay for the roads - they do not, entirely. Other taxpayers pump up the road budget as the vehicle licence income has a shortfall. Often not realised is that most cyclists are also drivers (and walkers). Each one is one car less on the road.

Another point is that there are folk unable to walk any distance but can cycle - is it fair to exclude them from rural facilities?

The Wirral Council section of the Wirral Way is well signposted to divide walkers from cycles/horses; Cheshire is not so clear and the direction of footpath and bridleway can be blurred. Both sections are overgrown in places.
