From Dorothy Cowper:-

I CAN not understand why Wirral Borough Council permits a circus to take place in Moreton after all the adverse publicity lately over the Chipperfield case.

I am not against the entertainment provided by circuses so long as they do not use animals. But as they all apparently do, they should all either stop this practice or close down. We have seen on television the dreadful treatment and abuse of animals meted out by Mary Chipperfield, her husband and employees.

In the first place, it is unnatural for animals to be forced to do all these 'tricks' - they should be out in their natural habitat, free to roam, instead of being incarcerated, when they are not performing in tiny cages.

Such noteworthy persons as Sir David Attenborough have expressed their disgust and horror over the Chipperfield case and people also are amazed at the lenient sentences handed out to the people convicted. Kerry Pollard, MP for St. Albans, has put down an Early Day Motion (EDM 714) in the House of Commons.

I would urge everyone to write to their MP urging them to add their names to the list.
