CHESHIRE Police will shortly take delivery of two unmarked motorcycles to be used by the Force's Traffic Enforcement Unit.

The machines will be handed over to the unit tomorrow by Chief Superintendent Alec Barclay, Head of Uniform Operations.

The bikes are fitted with video and speed detection equipment and will be used throughout the county.

The bikes will not be liveried and will not be recognisable as police vehicles until an offence takes place.

Chief Superintendent Barclay said: "The link between excessive speed and road crashes is well established and Cheshire Constabulary takes an uncompromising stance on enforcement of speed limits.

"Modern motorcycles are capable of phenomenal speeds and unfortunately a small minority of riders use the public highway to put their vehicles through their paces, having no regard for the safety of themselves or others. The message to these people is that we are determined to curtail this type of behaviour. These unmarked Traffic Motorcycles will further enhance our capability in this area."
