From Mrs B. Glover:-

I MUST respond to Inspector R. Simpson's reply to Sally Passmore's letter (Mailbox, August 25th) about the incident at Thurstaston Hill on the day of the eclipse.

I also received a parking ticket, as many people did, and was very annoyed, but I was even more annoyed when I read Inspector Simpson's response.

He said drivers had "abandoned" their cars/vehicles to watch the eclipse. People did not abandon their cars - they were parked sensibly on one side of the road.

He also said that cars were parked on both sides of the road. This was also untrue.

He also said that it greatly reduced the width of the road preventing emergency services from gettting through. Again, untrue. As we were leaving Thurstaston Hill, emergency services passed through very quickly, with no problems being encountered.

I myself am a law abiding citizen and have just encountered my first ever parking ticket and, hopefully, my last.

I have also lost a lot of respect for our Police Service, which totally conducted a fabulous event awfully.
