New Brighton . . . . . . . . . . 50pts, Aspatria . . . . . . . . . . 14pts
NEW Brighton turned up the heat in soaring temperatures to record a half century of points in Saturday's Jewsons National League Two demolition of Aspatria at Reeds Lane.
Marcus Coast opened the scoring with two early penalties (10-0). Scott pulled back a penalty for Aspatria, but back stormed the Blues and Kay responded with an impressive run to put Jez Lamb in for a try (15-3). Coast failed with the conversion.
Scott landed a monstrous long range penalty for the visitors. Coast replied with one for the Blues on 23 minutes. A Scott penalty for Aspatria reduced the Blues' half-time lead to 18-9.
New Brighton racked up a further 32 points in the second period. Tries from Coast, 2, Harman, 2, and two Coast conversions plus a penalty notched up the half century - and it could have been more. Aspatria grabbed a consolation try to give the scoreline some respectability.
On Saturday, New Brighton travel to Yorkshire to face Morley in Jewsons National League Two (kick-off 3pm). Supporters' travel details are available on 677-2442.
New Brighton 2nd XV notched up a fine 45 point win at Doncaster on Saturday.
