CALDY now need to win their last two games to be sure of the Bromborough Paints Merseyside Competition title. They took just five points from a draw against Runcorn and now only have a 10 points lead over Sutton, with Irby in third place.

Chris Ruddock hit 47 not out as Caldy closed 52 runs behind the Runcorn total with three wickets intact.

Mike Newman hit 70 as Irby saw off St Mary's College OB but there were defeats for Parkonians and Port Sunlight.

Parkfield stayed top of Division Two with a convincing win at Mossley Hill where Chris Jones made an undefeated 118 and Rich Cotton claimed 7-43.

Birkenhead St Mary's remain third after an eight wickets win at Whitefield. Wirral Mersey Park took the derby at Tranmere Vics with Daryl Hempstalk 50 not out. Rich Lyons finished with 4-19.

Eastham Bromborough lost at Buckley.

Castrol, with an outstanding contribution from Darren Green, won the Wirral League Lees Lloyd Whitley Cup Final at Irby. They had a 35 runs margin over Caldy.

Green hit 47 in the first innings and followed up with a knock of 63. Caldy's Dave Brown made scores of 36 and 41.

Score: Castrol 112-8 and 123-3 beat Caldy, 84-5 and 116-8, by 35 runs.
