PLANS to base Wirral Coroner's officers in Liverpool have been shelved following discussions between Coroner Christopher Johnson and police.

As previously reported in the Globe, the Hoylake office of the Coroner's officers is to be closed and the staff centralised in Liverpool.

In an exclusive interview in August, Mr Johnson expressed his anger at the plans, saying: "The Coroner's officers deliver a very high standard of service and are able to address the needs of Wirral people. We have told the Police this but they don't listen."

Wirral MPs had also campaigned against the centralisation in a letter to the Chief Constable. They argued that the officers need to be in Wirral to deal with families here and to work at Arrowe Park Hospital mortuary examining medical records.

The officers were due to move at the end of this month but plans are on hold following negotiations. They will be based at Hoylake temporarily but may now move to another office in Wirral instead of Liverpool.
