A STUDY has revealed that nearly a third of North West drivers have not had an eye test for 10 years.

This figure is higher than the national average of 23 per cent figures which equate to eight million drivers in the UK who could be unaware that they need glasses.

What's more, while 39 per cent of UK drivers taking part in the survey by Fish4Cars have to wear glasses or contact lenses, nine per cent admit that they do not always wear them.

Russell Scott, publisher of Fish4Cars, says: "These results really concern me. Too often campaigners have concentrated on drink driving as the cause of dangerous driving, but this study demonstrates that not getting your eyes tested can seriously threaten your fitness to drive."

The study took place at service stations in Reading, Manchester and Edinburgh, with 517 drivers filling out questionnaires and 551 taking part in a simple eye test.

TWO men at expanding motor dealers Windsors of Wallasey are celebrating a personal milestone this month they have both clocked up 25 years of continuous service.

But Mike Burnett and Ken Foster are far from alone as 'veterans' staking their claim to a place in history at the Harrison Drive company.

The pair bring the total number of employees with more than 25 years under their belt at Windsor's to six.

Paint sprayer Mike has twice won the 'National paint Sprayer of the Year' title during his time with the Rover dealership.

He says: "After serving my apprenticeship at Windsor's I have really enjoyed my time here and entering the various competitions coming first in consecutive years was the highlight of my career."

And service technician Ken Foster says: "Windsor's have been a great company to work for. I really enjoy my work."

Dave Tuomey, managing director of Windsor's which has recently taken over the Citroen fanchise for Wirral says: "We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and our 'team spirit'.

"We have six employees at Wallasey who have all worked here for more than 25 years and, at this exciting time in the history of Windsor's, we are now starting to employ former staff of Cubbin and North for the new dealership.

"I would like to thank all the staff in Wallasey for their commitment. With this strength of spirit we will continue to serve the Wirral motorist for many years to come."
