THIS letter is directed to the Chief Executive of Merseyrail Electrics. I have recently started using the Wirral Line on a regular basis and have been very disappointed with the number of cancellations of West Kirby trains, as well as delays to this service.

No doubt you are obliged to use old rail stock and the maintenance budget for the lines is most probably well below what is needed to do the job properly, but my question is why should the West Kirby line suffer so much more than any other destination?

My concern is that trains are being returned to the depot to be used elsewhere and passengers are repeatedly told it is because of a technical fault.

Please provide me with statistics of the changes to your schedule over the past year for each destination on the Wirral Line. I understand this information is available.

Furthermore, I cannot believe that it is more cost effective to have ticket inspectors travelling on trains to check tickets rather than to put in place automatic ticket turnstiles at either end, similar to the London Underground.
