A NEW 'Friends of Hilbre' group has been launched following a public meeting attended by some 80 people.
A slide show by the Hilbre Ranger Dave Cavanagh followed by a talk by two friends of Leasowe Lighthouse persuaded the gathering that the Friends would be beneficial to everyone.
The aims of the group and a draft constitution are yet to be finalised. But nominations for the first committee are being taken and the date of the first annual meeting is set for Wednesday, June 6.
The main job will be to raise funds to help Wirral Borough Council conserve Hilbre, including its buildings, wildlife and landscape. Other tasks will include working parties to carry out repairs and assist with wardening.
For more details, call ranger Dave on 632-4455. Alternatively, for Friends of Hilbre, contact Sue Craggs on 336-8643 or e-mail susancraggs62@hotmail.com.
