THE 2001 Cheshire County Show is the latest victim of the foot & mouth epidemic.

The show, which was to take place on June 19 and 20, is the major event of its kind in the North West and normally attracts livestock exhibitors from all over the country.

To discourage the movement of animals, the Cheshire Agricultural Society has decided to cancel the event altogether. Organisers considered that to go ahead without the livestock would alter the whole nature of the show and it would not be of the standard that visitors had come to expect.

To support the farming community, the committee have decided to launch an appeal to raise money for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. The Society will match pound for pound any donations that they receive up to £10,000.
