MEOLS St John won the Wallasey Association's Sheppick Cup with a close 11-chalk victory over Marine Park, on Saturday (writes Brian Hampson).

Three opening winners put Meols 19 in front, but by the end of the middle blocks the margin was reduced to 11, this time Marine Park having three winners.

The last blocks got off to a great start. Marine Park substitute Ray Mills triumphed 21-9, but this was cancelled out immediately by Len Smith, who also won by the same margin, and with the remaining two games finishing 21-11 each way, Meols hung on to their lead, leaving Marine Park as bridesmaids for the second successive season.

Meanwhile in the second Wallasey final to be played on Saturday, the Association Cup resulted in a comfortable win for Queen's Liscard over Division Three leaders Royden Hall.

Royden made a superb start with Ray Cashen winning 21-3, but Queen's Liscard took the next eight winning cards to go some 32 shots clear, Vic Clare handing in a 21-8 winning card.

Brian Hepworth put the game beyond Royden Hall, also by winning 21-8, giving Queen's Liscard the trophy and setting them up for the season's finish, with promotion well within their sights.

QUARRY Vikings recovered superbly from their 63 start given to Queen's Park to win the Stott Cup by 20 chalks.

Ken Bunting, 21-7, and captain Paul Johnson, 21-8, were the main contributors in pulling 29 off the handicap in the opening blocks.

Four more winners in the middle, which included a 21-8 from Brian Leonard, put Quarry just six chalks behind and with the back four all winning, the cup was on its way back to Wallasey.
