IRBY secured a 58-run victory at Cholmondeley in their latest match in Division Two of the Murray Smith Cheshire County League, on Saturday. They are now third in the table and have a good chance of clinching promotion.

Mike Griffiths, with a knock of 43, and Andy Peddie, who added 38 not out, batted well for the Wirral club. Colin Gibson, four wickets at the expense of 47 runs, did most damage with the ball.

Parkonians had another disappointing day in the Meller Braggins Cheshire League Division One.

Tim Hitchell made 38 not out, but their 90 total was nowhere near enough and they fell by 10 wickets against Hale Barns.

Wirral, in Division Three, won at Norbury by 50 runs and Port Sunlight had a seven wickets margin at home to Barnton. Danny Gulliver hit an undefeated 63 for Sunlight. Ryan Kearney took 3-31 and Andy Williams 3-45.

Birkenhead St Mary's held Bromborough Paints Merseyside Competition leaders Prestatyn in a close game in North Wales. John Ford made 93 and bowlers among the wickets were Mike Griffiths, 3-55, and Shakeel Nawaz, 3-50.

Saints are 30 points off the top of the table, but all title hopes have not yet evaporated.

Parkfield are still clear in Division Two. They beat St Mary's College Old Boys by five wickets. Chris Jones took 5-32 and John McClelland 3-25.

Eastham Bromborough drew with Hale, but Tranmere Vics lost by 76 runs at Wavertree II.

In the Competition, Birkenhead have Manweb as visitors and other games include Nalgo v Parkfield and a Tranmere Vics v Eastham Bromborough 'derby'.
