NOBODY in their right mind would surely ever seriously criticise attempts to make our roads safer and therefore save the lives of motorists and pedestrians alike.
However, that doesn't mean we should immediately jump down the throat of anyone who dares to take a wry look at something that is clearly a major irritation to many of the people who live, drive and, yes, walk in Wirral.
The Horror Highways article and the reaction to it said two things to me.
One, gratitude that we are still able to laugh at some of the absurd situations we create for ourselves, no matter how well meaning they were intended.
But secondly, judging from a couple of letters expressing disapproval, that that very good, old-fashioned British ability to be occasionally light-hearted about serious matters, is in danger of becoming a thing of the past.
