A new shop that aims to promote the benefits of breastfeeding to new mums and mums-to-be is opening in Birkenhead this week.

Based in Grange Precinct, the shop is being run in conjunction with The Wirral Mother’s Milk Bank – part of Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Open from 10am to 3pm, five days a week from Tuesday to Saturday, the shop will aim to highlight the importance of breastfeeding and will provide information, support and advice as well as a range of services for local women.

To coincide with the opening, the Trust, which manages Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals, is launching a campaign titled "Real Mums, Real Milk, Real Midwives" to raise awareness of the importance of giving babies the best start in life.

Jemma Jones, Community Midwife at the Trust, hopes that the new shop will help to build on this campaign and provide mums with an easily accessible place where they can feel comfortable about breastfeeding.

She said: “Encouraging and giving mums the confidence to breastfeed their baby is so important. It is so natural and we want to provide a service that offers mums the help and support that they need."
