A PLEA for help in a crusade against crime brought a torrent of information from the Wirral community enabling police to seize drugs worth more than £300,000 and make 45 arrests.

As part of this year's "Not in My Neighbourhood Week" Merseyside Police and their partners in Wirral conducted an operation targeting crimes such as burglary, theft, and drug dealing.

A police statement said the information received from the community enabled criminals to be targeted effectively.

"The level of information received from the community was a great example of how residents now want to take a stand and say 'Not in My Neighbourhood.’"

During the operation, which ran from Monday, November 2 to the following Friday, police in Wirral carried out 55 search warrants with 45 arrests for offences including drug supply, drug possession, burglary, theft and money laundering.

Drugs with a street value of around £300,000 were recovered and £6,000 in cash was also seized.

Wirral's Area Commander Chief Superintendent Jon Ward said: "The results we have seen in Not In My Neighbourhood Week have been outstanding.

"This has been a great example of how communities can pull together to take a stand against the small minority of people who affect the lives of the majority through criminal behaviour.

"My officers and staff along with our partner agencies are committed to ensuring that neighbourhoods in Wirral remain great places to live. This operation is not in isolation but is simply building and publicising the work that goes on 24 hours a day, 365 days a week."
