A POLICE crackdown on shopping centre crime in the run-up to Christmas has been launched this afternoon.
From Thursday, November 19, until New Year's Eve there will be increased patrols around the Grange and Pyramid shopping centres in Birkenhead and Cherry Tree shopping centre in Liscard.
Police will be out in force to ensure the streets stay safe for shoppers.
During November and December, shops within town centres generally extend their opening hours, attracting increased numbers of visitors and cars in the area.
Shoplifters, anyone causing disorder for alcohol related or violent offences and anyone causing any anti-social behaviour will be targeted during the campaign.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Katie Wilkinson said: "Having a high visibility presence in busy town centres like Birkenhead at this time of year helps ensure that shoppers can have a safe shopping experience.
"The aim is to ensure that shoppers don't become victims of any sort of crime."
