With regard to letter by K MnEntee, I think it is he/she who needs the psychiatrist!

That or to stop listening to tabloid propaganda regarding dogs and go and research the actual figures of dog attacks.

Rottweilers are not the dogs most likely to bite you. and rottweilers were not bred to guard; they were pastoral herding dogs from the German town of Rottweil.

They rarely injure any of the flock. Quite impressive for such a “vicious” breed, don’t you think?

As big as a well-built man? What well-built man weighs eight- stone? Sensationalised nonsense. There are no bad breeds, only bad owners. Unfortunetly, some of these lovely dogs attract the wrong owners, and the poor dogs suffer as a result and their entire breed is brought into question. Ill-fed, untrained, abused, unstimulated and unsocialised, any dog is dangerous. You need to take a look on the other end of the lead, where the real danger lies. Also, why mention a child? A dog aggressive dog might be brilliant around children, you cannot umbrella behaviour like this. If a dog was running amok or attacking, that’s the owners fault, and the owner should be prosecuted.

My husband and I own six dogs, if any of ours savaged anyone, I would be more than happy to go to prison because they are my responsibility: dogs do not have moral or ethical responsibility.

A well cared for Rottie is like a big teddybear.
