The production, which also features soprano Anne Taft, premiered at Liverpool's bombed-out church in St Lukes Church in July and there are plans for a national next year.

Looking forward to the Wirral performances, which will be produced by Bill Elms, Neil told the Globe: "Ghost Stories is quite a dark, impressionistic piece of work that has taken on a life of its own. We're planning to take it on tour.

"The piece has a real gothic feel to it, which is why the Priory is a perfect performance venue.

"I have performed Ghost Stories at a number of places, but Birkenhead Priory is a special. It's a stunning little place, very intimate with a very small number of seats."

Neil has followed a number of musical paths throughout his career, including band leader and virtuoso guitar soloist.

In 1998 he simultaneously became involved with the free music improvisation scene and the acoustic scene in Liverpool.
