FREE car seat safety checks will be carried out this Saturday in the car park of the Aldi store in Heswall.

Organisd by Wirral's Road Safety team in partnership with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service they will run from 10am-1pm.

The following Saturday, November 21, they will be held in Dee Lane car park, West Kirby, from 10am-1pm.

Paul Gibson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "All too often we see the risks some people take with their children in cars – children leaning between the front seats to talk to their parents or children kneeling on the seat and waving out the back window.

"We don't want them to become another casualty on our roads and it's so easy to avoid.

"A suitable and correctly fitted child restraint can significantly reduce injuries to children. The correct car seat for each child, should be based on the child’s weight and size, and not based on the age of the child. An incorrectly fitted car seat would offer little or no protection to a child.”
