JAMES Burton will play his only European show as part of Wirral's International Guitar Festival later this month.

The legendary American guitarist, who turned 70 in August, will be at the Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton on November 22.

Covering his 55 year career, the show will feature hits by Suzie Q, Ricky Nelson, Roy Orbison, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris John Denver and of course Elvis Presley.

Chris Clayton will be undertaking the Elvis set, accompanied by Wirral guitarist Don Woods, who will perform the hits of Roy Orbison and Ricky Nelson.

Wallasey-based Don said: "James was the main reason I picked up a guitar in the first place and to appear alongside him on stage is a privilege.

"I have worked with him before but the novelty never wears off…a great guitarist and a great guy."

There is also a country section of the show, with Susan Hedges providing vocals for Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and John Denver.

This year's festival opened last week and ends on November 28.

Among its many highlights is classical guitarist John Williams, who returns for a concert at Pacific Road this Sunday, November 15.

Also appearing are Lorraine McIntosh and Ricky Ross from multi-million selling Scottish group Deacon Blue, ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman with his Rhythm Kings and Wirral guitarist Gary Murphy among many others.

Folk guitarist Nick Harper will also perform at Pacific Road, in a concert that is sponsored by the Globe.

There is also a tribute concert to festival co-founder Brendan McCormack on Sunday November 22.
