A WIRRAL man has walked the Great Wall of China to raise money for charity.

Tony Collins, 39, from Wallasey, spent eight days climbing and walking as part of a guided group in aid of Hoylake Cottage.

The climb took the team across desert, grasslands and mountains, venturing in to the most remote and isolated parts of Bejing.

Tony managed to raise £1,000 for the charity, bringing him one step closer to his £2,100 target.

He said: "The whole experience was amazing, the weather was good, the food was good and it was a great personal achievement."

He is hoping to climb Mount Kilimanjaro as his next challenge to raise more money for a new day centre at Hoylake Cottage.

The Hoylake Cottage Day Care Appeal aims to raise £1m to build the new centre for older people being cared for in their own homes.

Emma Keenan, a Hoylake Cottage community fundraiser, said: "We are thrilled that Tony has completed such an amazing challenge and want to congratulate him for all his efforts and thank him and everyone that has supported him."
