LOCAL Labour Euro MPs have expressed disgust that the BNP is raising funds for their European election campaign by selling a CD which includes Dame Vera's hits such as All Alone In Vienna and The White Cliffs Of Dover.
The MEPs say they are supporting Dame Vera Lynn in her fight against "the abuse of her intellectual property rights" by the BNP.
They are calling for the copyrights of performers to cover the artist's entire lifetime.
They will vote on enhanced protection for performers this spring.
North West Euro MP, Arlene McCarthy said: "It is unfair and unacceptable that the BNP can make money for its own racist agenda but that Vera Lynne as the performer is not entitled to any compensation or say on how her music is used.”
“Vera Lynne is right to challenge it and the law does protect her moral rights over her music. However, this case has highlighted a weakness in the law that we will be addressing at a European level.”
