A WIRRAL man has been handed a suspended sentence after downloading almost 300 indecent images of children.

Jamie Blackburn, 53, appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 20 for sentencing after he earlier pleaded guilty to possessing 272 indecent photographs of children of categories A, B and C.

Blackburn, of Crescent Road, Egremont, pleaded guilty to making (downloading) 61 Category A images, 23 Category B images and 188 Category C images.

He also admitted possessing 13 prohibited images of children.

The offences were committed between February 2024 until February 2026.

Magistrates handed Blackburn an eight month prison sentence suspended for 18 months with the suspension justified due to the "defendant's previous good character and the work he has done since he pleaded guilty".

Blackburn was made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years and must sign the Sex Offenders' Register for the same period.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £197 victim surcharge.
