A WIRRAL teacher whose pub karaoke of Nessun Dorma racked up millions of views is returning to the bar with a rock‑opera reboot.
Tenor Benjamin Gillham, who teaches at Foxfield School in Woodchurch, will premiere Nessun Dorma (Rock Symphony) live at Cooper’s in Liverpool at 5pm on Friday, June 5.
Gillham shot to prominence after a friend secretly put his name down for karaoke at Cooper’s, with a clip of his powerful rendition of the Puccini aria quickly going viral and drawing national media attention.
For his new version, he has teamed up with Wirral producer and guitarist Alistair Clynch and musicians from glam rock tribute act Koo Ka Choo to fuse his operatic vocals with cinematic orchestration and full‑band rock.
The track is being released worldwide on digital platforms the same day, with the Cooper’s show billed as a “live launch” back at the scene of his original viral performance.
Gillham said returning to the venue with a new take on Nessun Dorma, during the centenary year of Puccini’s Turandot and with another World Cup on the horizon, felt “incredibly special”.
