A WIRRAL pub has re-introduced age restrictions in order to maintain a "safe" environment following incidents of antisocial behaviour.
The Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey has reinstated its over-21s policy for Friday and Saturday nights from 8pm.
The pub thanked customers for their understanding in a social media post and said the restriction will be in place indefinitely but is open to review in the future.
In 2022, the pub was the scene of a shooting in which five people were injured and 26-year-old Elle Edwards was killed.
The perpetrator, 22-year-old Connor Chapman, was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder with a minimum term of 48 years.
Posting on Facebook, the Lighthouse Inn said: "Following recent incidents of antisocial behaviour, we have made the decision to reinstate an Over 21s policy on Friday and Saturday evenings from 8pm until further notice.
"This measure is intended to help maintain a safe, enjoyable, and respectful environment for all our guests.
"We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support, and we look forward to welcoming you for great nights with a positive and vibrant atmosphere."
The decision has stirred debate on social media, with one member of the public calling it unfair and another suggesting a dress code might be a better option.
The pub replied: "We've met with management and licensing, and a dress code was considered as an option.
"However, as we also operate as a restaurant, it would be difficult to manage effectively."
The Lighthouse Inn said it took into account the age range of those involved in the recent incidents.
It described the move as temporary and said it would be open to review if behaviour improves.
