A Wirral charity that supports people living with cancer has been given a £50,000 boost as part of a local company's milestone anniversary celebrations.
The directors of Maggie’s, which provides free practical, emotional and social support for people living with cancer, said they were 'extremely grateful' to West Wallasey for their outstanding donation of £50,000, to enable the vital care and support within their centre.
In April this year West Wallasey launched an initiative to mark their 50th anniversary and to support their local community.
Awarding £1,000 every day for 50 days, to a local club, charity or society that makes a positive contribution to the community.
On June 3, their official 50th anniversary, the company announced it would award £50,000 to one organisation they felt would use the funds 'to make an outstanding contribution to the Wirral'.
It chose Maggie's Wirral.
Kathy Wright, centre head at Maggie’s Wirral said "We are completely overwhelmed to receive this extraordinary donation and are extremely thankful to West Wallasey, for their incredible generosity.
"We are currently supporting 78% of the local population of new people diagnosed with cancer, along with people currently living with and beyond cancer. This would not be possible without the support of West Wallasey.
"The donation will make a significant difference to those who need us most. Please know if you or anyone you know needs our support, please just drop in, there is no appointment or referral required.”
Built in the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Maggie’s Wirral is a warm and welcoming place, with qualified professionals on hand to offer an evidence-based core programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.
The emotional and practical support provided by Maggie’s to those trying to deal with the ramifications of such a diagnosis is absolutely invaluable, and the support from West Wallasey will ensure the doors remain open and the positive impact they have on the lives of both those living with cancer and their families will continue.
A spokesperson for West Wallasey Van Hire said: “West Wallasey is delighted to be able to support the amazing work that Maggie’s undertakes to support our community.
"The care and support that the wonderful team at Maggie’s provide has proven invaluable to so many families affected by cancer.
"We are proud to be able to support Maggie’s and it’s amazing work as part of our 50th Anniversary community projects.”
Maggie’s Wirral relies on voluntary donations to support and grow and develop the evidence based, high quality programme of support.
The charity’s aim is to make the biggest difference possible to people living with cancer and their family and friends.
