A SERIES of free community meals for people in Wirral got off to a stylish start with a vintage fashion show and tea party.
Earth Moves, a community space in Wallasey, is hosting Grow, Cook, Eat! Events where local people can learn how to grow, cook and eat their own food while receiving a free meal and enjoy a cultural creative workshop.
The first event was a 1940s style tea party, with a showcase of original clothing from the period hosted by Twintage Vintage, who told attendees about fashions of the time.
The lunch was followed by a sing-a-long of old hits including the popular ‘We Will Meet Again’.
The next event takes place on October 5, celebrating Black History Month, with a vegan Ethiopian feast and arts workshop looking at African Gods and Goddesses.
The events are taking place regularly until June 2025, people can join in with free planting days and community meals in Wallasey.
The series of free events have been co-designed by volunteers at Earth Moves.
Each community meal will be plant based using locally sourced food, participants will be able to learn how to cook low-cost recipes, as well as enjoying a cultural activity at each event inspired by the events theme.
Paula Staunton, Earth Moves Founder said: “Our events are about coming together as a community to grow food, create delicious meals and enjoy these together.
“We also want to use culture as well as horticulture in our events, so each meal has a fun theme where people can enjoy themselves trying something new, be it Pizza making from Italy or Belly Dancing from the Middle East.
“Come along, meet new people, have fun and do something new!”
