A GROUP that helps maintain the grounds at a Wirral cemetery says it is 'extremely saddened' after vandals targeted the area again.
In a post on Facebook, the Friends of Flaybrick in Bidston, said an interpretation board that was sited close to where the chapel used to be, has been ripped from the ground and stolen.
The group has launched an appeal to find the board.
The board was held in the ground using one bag of postcrete on each leg. They are metal units and probably would weigh around 30kg in total.
According to the friends' group, it was 'certainly not easily removed and probably required a vehicle to do so'.
A post on Friends of Flaybrick's Facebook page read: "Regular cemetery visitors and people who come along on our guided walks, will no doubt have seen the interpretation boards we've introduced around the site.
"We have had nothing but great feedback from the public regarding them and our QR codes.
"Unfortunately, it would appear that the things we do as a charity and volunteer group within Flaybrick are repeatedly vandalised / damaged."
"This is not the first time our work has been targeted. The soldiers and poppies that stand by the chapels were vandalised with spray paint prior to Remembrance in 2023.
"And the notice board as you reach the RC section was totally destroyed by fire in 2021, along with another interpretation board in the same area.
"Other boards have been burnt and sprayed with paint. And trees we have planted have been poisoned.
"To say we are devastated that someone could be specifically targeting a local charity and the work we do is a complete understatement.
"If anyone has any information about the removal/theft of the board, or knows where it may have been dumped?
"If you have seen it anywhere locally, can you please let us, or the council staff at Flaybrick know.
"It's really quite sad to have these things happen on a site that respects those who have passed, but the person involved is to know, under no uncertain terms, will our charity and group of volunteers be walking away from this site."
