FOOTAGE from Cheshire Police shows the moment that a man was arrested after a high-speed chase through Ellesmere Port.
Stuart Whittaker, of Beech Grove, Whitby received a total of 16 months in prison and was disqualified from driving for a period of five years and eight months on Tuesday, September 10.
Police pursued the 40-year-old through several residential streets, with his Volkswagen Golf reaching speeds of over 80mph in 30mph zones.
The video follows officers PC Cooling and PC Macdonald as they continued to chase Whittaker along Regent Street, School Road, and later Grace Road before he exits the vehicle on Edward Street.
Throughout the chase one of the officers states the driver is “still doing 70mph in a designated 30”.
Whittaker is later arrested and can be heard saying: “I know mate I’m a ******* idiot.
“I’m a ******* idiot mate.”
Whittaker was also found to be drug driving, with 212 micrograms of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood – the limit is 50 – plus 32 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood, over the limit which is 10.
At the sentencing hearing, the judge commended the way in which the two police officers involved in the pursuit handled the situation. The officer’s driving was described as ‘magnificent’, as was the assistance of the other officer.
