A WIRRAL man has been charged with stalking during a police crackdown on domestic abuse.
Kevin Durant, 35, from Birkenhead, was charged with an offence of stalking involving serious alarm and distress.
He was conditionally bailed and will appear at Merseyside Domestic Violence Court on September 24.
Merseyside Police arrested seven people across Merseyside as part of the crackdown.
On Thursday, September 19 teams of local officers, led by Merseyside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People unit, travelled across Wirral, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Knowsley as part of Operation Cassia, a police operation to arrest people police believe are responsible for both recent and historical cases of domestic abuse.
Kelly Bird, 36, from Old Swan, was also charged with assault. She was remanded to appear at court today (September 20).
One man and one woman were bailed with conditions, two men were bailed and one woman was issued with a domestic violence protection notice.
Detective Chief Inspector Sue Hinds said: “We are relentless in our pursuit of offenders and are determined to put them before the courts.
£These days of action support the work that our officers carry out every day to bring offenders to justice and ensure that victim-survivors are given the support that they need.
“Merseyside Police is determined to break that cycle of abuse where perpetrators continue to commit crime after crime against their victim thinking that every time they do, they are less likely to get caught
“I would really like to urge anyone who may be a victim of domestic abuse, or know someone who is a victim, to please reach out for help.
“We take reports of domestic abuse extremely seriously, and we are here to listen and support you and bring perpetrators to justice.”
