A FOUR-YEAR-OLD from Wirral has become of the youngest golfers ever to have hit a hole in one after pulling off the extraordinary feat at Caldy Golf Club.

Caleb Parry, who participates in the Wirral Golf Junior League, was playing at the Caldy Golf Club par 3 course when he achieved the remarkable milestone last weekend by managing to score a hole-in-one on the fifth hole.

Proud dad, James, of Thingwall, said: "He's been playing for about 18 months now - I've no idea who he learned his golf swing from because it's very good for his age.

"He's obsessed with it - every evening he asks if we can go to the golf club or go in the back garden.

"We watched it a bit on TV when he was younger and I think he liked the colours and then his nan got him some golf clubs for his first Christmas and he just started swinging."

Luckily James was present when Caleb produced his masterclass.

He said: "Caleb was invited by a family friend to start playing for the Heswall junior team and this was his second competition.

"He was born six weeks early so is small for age but has a very good swing and when he hit it it just started rolling and then someone shouted 'that's in!'

"I don't think it was until late on that it sunk in that he's actually got a hole in one - I was gobsmacked and just couldn't believe it."

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the youngest male golfer recorded to have shot a hole in one is Christian Carpenter, aged four years 195 days, at the Mountain View Golf Club, Hickory, North Carolina, USA on December 18, 1999.

James added: "He's only been using his proper golf clubs four months ago and he's been having lessons at Heswall.

"It's just for enjoyment at the moment - if he beats me he gets a chocolate bar to keep him happy and interested in it."

Caleb also turned five-years-old this week and had his first day at primary school.

James added: "His enthusiasm for the game is infectious, and we were all overjoyed to witness such a rare and exciting achievement at such a young age.

"The junior league has been an incredible environment for nurturing young talent, and this moment is a testament to the great coaching and encouragement he has received at Heswall Golf Club."
