A "dangerous" Ellesmere Port man who raped and brutally attacked a stranger before throwing her out into an alleyway "like a piece of rubbish" has received an extended prison sentence totalling nearly 19 years.

Fadly Khalil, 35, formerly of Grace Road, was found guilty of rape following a second trial at Chester Crown Court in July.

The defendant had previously admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent against the same victim, who cannot be named, in the same incident from October 2023.

Separately, Khalil also pleaded guilty, prior to trial, of sexually assaulting a female paramedic, and harassing a male housemate with numerous threats, abuse and physical violence, including hitting him with a hammer.

Vulnerable

Prosecuting, Jade Tufail said it was on the night of October 9, 2023 when Khalil offered to buy a can of beer for a vulnerable woman who had issues with alcohol.

She accepted, but Khalil insisted she could only drink it at his place, where he had more drink available.

The woman went to Khalil's place, where Khalil poured her a drink and went to the toilet. When he returned, he had exposed himself, and then forced himself upon her despite her resisting and screaming for him to stop.

After raping her, Khalil punched, kicked and stamped on the woman, fracturing six ribs, puncturing her left lung which then collapsed, and badly fractured her wrist in two places.

The defendant then threw or dragged the victim downstairs in the shared accommodation building, with her half-dressed, and threw her into a nearby alleyway.

Passers-by were alerted and phoned 999, with police arriving shortly afterwards.

In police interview, Khalil denied all offending, saying a housemate had hit the woman on the head, while he had put her in the alleyway for her safety "so she would not be hit by any cars".

'He thought I was nothing'

The woman, in a victim statement read to the court, said she was made to feel "powerless" during the attack and thought Khalil was going to kill her, as she recalled screaming in agony and being unable to move.

She added: "If people had not seen me [in the alleyway] I would have died there.

"He didn't treat me like a human being. He saw me as something he could use, torture, and throw away. He thought I was nothing."

The woman added her alcohol use has worsened since the rape and her injuries had lasting effects.

She added she was "so anxious" at the court processes, but was proud of herself for going through it.

Sex assault on paramedic

Ms Tufail said a month prior, paramedics had been called to Grace Road in Ellesmere Port for a man – Khalil – lying in the street, heavily intoxicated.

During treatment, Khalil repeatedly tried to grab parts of the female paramedic's body, including her thigh and breast, before slapping her bottom, adding he did not want to have sex with her, but 'just liked her'.

Although the paramedic, in her victim statement, said she had not been greatly affected by the incident, she felt it had been worth reporting as it needed to be shown that behaviour was not acceptable.

In police interview, Khalil said he had been drinking vodka since 10am that day, and when he was told of the offence he "recoiled", expressed remorse and desired to meet the paramedic to apologise to her.

Campaign of abuse

Ms Tufail told the court for the harassment, which happened between July 31 and August 30, 2023, Khalil's housemate had initially told him not to smoke cannabis, to which Khalil reacted angrily, saying: "You son of a b****, I am going to kill you, I will f*** your sister."

Khalil then kicked his housemate in the back, causing him to fall down the stairs.

Over the following few weeks, the male housemate was subjected to a campaign of abuse, where Khalil spat at him, threatened him while holding a knife and hit him in the palm of the hand with a hammer.

Prior to the offences, Khalil had no previous convictions.

'Extremely isolated'

Defending, Max Saffman said Khalil had come to the UK since 2022, following an "unhappy childhood" in Egypt where his father had been persecuted.

He was placed by the Home Office into shared accommodation in Ellesmere Port, and "presented as extremely isolated", and quickly became a drinker of alcohol, the use of which was behind the offending.

Mr Recorder Anthony O'Donohoe said Khalil "took advantage of a vulnerable woman" and "subjected her to a brutal beating".

He added: "That was not the end of her degradation. You dragged her through the communal part of the property, you pushed or dragged her down the stairs, you threw her into an alleyway like a piece of rubbish to be disposed of.

"This can only be described as a serious offence by any standards.

"I find you to be dangerous."

Khalil was handed a 15-year prison sentence, for which he must serve at least two-thirds behind bars, plus four years extended licence.

He was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Restraining orders were imposed preventing Khalil from contacting his harassment victim in any way for five years, and from contacting his rape victim in any way indefinitely.

The court heard a deportation hearing for Khalil could take place at a future court date.
