TRIBUTES to music legends The Beatles and Rolling Stones will face each other in a special show taking place at a Wirral theatre later this month.

Their music will be put to the test in Beatles vs. Stones at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on Friday, August 23.

Representing these giants of pop history are The Cavern Club’s official Beatles tribute band, The Cavern Club Beatles and a group described by the show's promoter as 'Sweden’s finest tribute to The Rolling Stones', Rocks Off.

Both bands will feature timeless classics, including I Wanna Hold Your HandTwist and ShoutBrown Sugar and Honky Tonk Woman.

The Beatles vs Stones show is part of the International Beatleweek Festival, taking place from August 21 to 27 across Liverpool venues.

This year, the festival extends to the seaside shores of New Brighton for the first time.

Organised by Cavern Club owners Cavern City Tours Limited, the annual week-long festival celebrates the music of The Beatles.

It attracts thousands of international visitors to the birthplace of The Fab Four and showcases tribute bands from over twenty different countries across multiple venues.

Event organiser and Cavern director Jon Keats said: "It’s great to be extending the festival to our friends in New Brighton.

"It shows the wealth of fabulous venues and areas that Merseyside has to offer.

"New Brighton is an important location in the story of The Beatles, where they performed 27 times in their early career.

"Fittingly, 2024 marks 60 years since the Rolling Stones performed at the then-present Tower Ballroom, making it the perfect time to bring this show to the Floral Pavilion and the people of New Brighton."

The Cavern Club Beatles are the only band officially endorsed by the legendary venue.

Collectively, the band has played on London's West End, Broadway in New York, toured the world extensively and performed their sell-out show at the Cavern Club fifty-two weeks of the year.

Swedish band, Rocks Off are considered the world’s finest tribute to The Rolling Stones. The band is described by Jon as 'no stranger to Liverpool', having been regular headliners at Liverpool’s Mathew Street Festival and wowing audiences at the International Beatleweek Festival for more than 20 years.

The Floral Pavilion show will also feature a special guest tribute to Rock 'n' Roll pioneer, Little Richard who too performed at the Tower Ballroom in 1962 with The Beatles supporting them.

Little Richard was a known hero of The Beatles and Buzz D’Angelo will bring his flamboyancy to the stage in tribute to the man who influenced the music of both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Jon added: "This show will be a perfect journey through time.

"I’m not sure that the age-old debate of which band reigns supreme will ever be settled, but the audience will certainly enjoy themselves trying to decide for themselves!"

Beatles vs. Stones is at the Floral Pavilion on Friday, August 23, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are from the box office at 0151 666 0000 or www.floralpavilion.com.
