A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was arrested after he was caught riding a scrambler bike illegally in Wirral.

At around 5.45pm on Saturday, June 22 police received a report that an off-road bike was being ridden "antisocially" in Wallasey.

Police attended the area where they found one of the bikes heading into grasslands near to The Birket/Junction One retail park.

Officers arrested a 12-year-old boy at around 7.25pm.

The bike was recovered and the boy was returned home and de-arrested. Enquiries remain ongoing.

Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit said: “This bike has been seized following a pursuit on the Wirral.

“The rider turned out to be 12 years of age! Please don’t let this happen to your child, these bikes are not safe to be ridden illegally on the road. We do deal with them robustly to protect the rider and the public.”
