A WIRRAL dementia support charity has received a donation to fund the creation of activity boxes for people with memory loss.

The £700 from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation will help Dementia Together Wirral make boxes designed to prompt reminiscence and mental activity when enjoyed with a carer.

The charity, formed in 2017, aims to bring people affected by dementia in the area together to enjoy friendship and community.

Its volunteers host a variety of dementia-friendly events, including memory cafés, music groups, walking groups, crafts and games groups, day trips and more which are free of charge.

The charity was nominated for the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation cash after by staff from the Society’s agency in Wallasey.

Karen Latham, team leader at the branch, said: "We are proud to be able to support Dementia Together Wirral in our community in Wallasey with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

"The work that they are doing to support local families is providing a real benefit to their lives."

Allan Grogan, chair of Dementia Together Wirral, said: "We are really thankful for the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation which will help us continue to provide our services.

"We welcome anybody experiencing memory loss whether a formal diagnosis has been given or not."

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

Last year the foundation donated more than £283,000 to local causes and charities nominated by members and colleagues from around the UK.
