POLICE are appealing for information after masked men riding a bike through a Wirral street were spotted with a “pistol”.

At around 5.05pm, officers received a report that two men riding an electric bike on Holt Road in Tranmere were believed to be in possession of a firearm, described as having the appearance of a “pistol”.

The firearm was not fired and police say “extensive enquiries” are ongoing to identify those involved.

One of the males was dressed all in black and the second was wearing a grey and black Montirex tracksuit top.

Both were wearing grey gloves and had distinctive face coverings that completely hid their faces.

Detective Inspector Andrew Schofield said: “Although thankfully rare, we understand the fear that such incidents cause within our communities.

“We would be keen to hear from anyone who saw this incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around 5.05pm on Saturday.

“Likewise, if you live locally or were passing in the area, please check your dashcam, CCTV or home doorbell devices and let us know directly, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

“Our officers will be in the area in the coming days to provide a visible presence, and we will take action on all information provided.”
