GRAHAM Alexander is hopeful of seeing Jamie Walker and Matty Platt in a City shirt again.

The out-of-contract pair are mulling over new contract offers at Valley Parade.

Alexander is banking on them wanting to stay for more after making strong finishes to the season.

“I think they’ve both enjoyed their football at Bradford and have been significant players for us since myself and Chris (Lucketti) arrived in November,” he said.

“When they’ve been fit and available, they’ve been starters for us. I think they will be encouraged by that.

“They’ve seen what we’ve been trying to do, certainly in the last seven games, and how we’ve played and they’ve played a significant part in that.

“Yeah, we want them to extend that time. We’ve offered them the deals and will hopefully come to an agreement.”

City have taken up the one-year options with Brad Halliday and Bobby Pointon as they open talks with the pair over committing to long-term deals.

Richie Smallwood and Sam Stubbs have also earned a further 12 months after meeting appearance clauses in their current contracts.

Alexander is keeping his fingers crossed that Walker and Platt will now agree to the terms that are on the table.

“We understand these are senior players who will go home and have decisions to make,” he added. “That’s the scenario.

“I’ve sat down with them both just to explain the football side of it and how we see them in our structure and in our team and how we think we can help them improve.

“Players want to be part of successful sides but they also want to improve as individuals.”

Centre half Platt suffered just one defeat in his last 14 City outings – and the team won 11 of them.

Walker was a big miss during the eight-match winless spell after he was injured at Doncaster before Christmas.

“I just like the way they play,” said Alexander. “They’ve taken to what we require from the positions, they’ve been encouraged by how important we feel they are for us.

“One player doesn’t win you games. It’s certainly not the case that one player makes the team, we have several good players.

“But we know what they have both done for us and feel that they can continue to do that.

“We wouldn’t be offering contracts just for what people have done in the past. It’s what they can do in the future.

“We’re looking for more from both of them if we manage to secure their services.

“But we’re trying to up the levels for every player. If we want to be successful, we have to give more both as individuals and as a collective.”
