A RUMMAGE in the Leader archives can always dig up some nostalgia gold.

One of the latest finds is a set of images from Wrexham Fire Station on Bradley Road, in 1969.

The photos, one featuring a full line up of engines, and the other details of a new Dennis engine, sparked a trip down memory lane for many.

The station was closed in 2016, with the new Ambulance and Fire Services Resource Centre open on Croesnewydd Road in the same year.

The new site included an eight-bay fire station, a six-bay ambulance station and top-of-the-range training facilities.

With the old photos shared to the Leader's 'Local Bygones' Facebook group, members took to the comments section to recall moments about the place...

Harvey Campbell: "Wow! I've got some memories from working out of that building."

Mark Roberts: "Great memories working in that station for 20 years."

Lynne Oliver: "Awww, wonderful memories of going to the Christmas parties here with my uncle Tony Andrew."

A shared trip down memory lane for Liz Whitby too: "Happy memories of going to the Christmas parties with my wonderful grandad, Stan Warner."

Mike Roberts had a memory and a question: "I always remember the air raid siren going off when there was a large fire - not sure of the reason, anyone know?"

And Mike Davies certainly adding: "The siren was used to alert the retained (part-time) firefighters if they were needed. They had an alerter system in their homes but if they were in town they wouldn't hear it.

"If they heard the siren they would rush to the fire station. More recently they were issued with pager devices, so the siren was no longer needed."

Dan Jones: "My dad and grandad both worked here. Loved the smell of the kit when you walked in. Some great blokes worked there."

Margaret Roberts: "As a 13-year-old I delivered all the newspapers to the station for about two years during the mid-60s. It was after about six months the firemen discovered I was a girl - hilarious."

Annie Donnelly: "Went there to complete our Firefighter's Badge when I was in the Girl Guides, they even let us slide down the pole!"

Hugh Roberts: "I remember it being built, having served at the old fire station in Chester Street."
