POLICE have explained the reason for a dispersal order in a Flintshire town.

On Saturday, North Wales Police's North Flintshire team issued a dispersal order covering the Shotton High Street area between 9am and 9pm.

A dispersal order gives officers additional powers to move on anyone causing a nuisance and, if necessary, arrest those who return to the designated dispersal area.

On Sunday morning, the North Flintshire team revealed why the order was in place.

A spokesperson said: "A dispersal order was in place on April 27 for Shotton High Street and there was a heavy police presence, this was due to a large number of fans stopping with us before heading off to the Wrexham game.

"Happy to report there were no incidents and everyone travelled on safely."

Photos posted on social media showed several coaches full of Stockport County stopping off in Shotton before the game. It likely formed part of North Wales Police's arrangements for policing the game.

The North Flintshire team also gave an overview of some of the 63 incidents officers dealt with over the last 24 hours.

  • Officers attended a suspected assault incident and worked with ambulance colleagues  to ensure the safety and care of the alleged victim. Police said they are "safe and well", and that a suspect remains in custody.
  • There were arrests for alleged criminal damage, drink driving and assault overnight.
  • Police also received reports of anti-social behaviour regarding youths in multiple areas causing damage to property. They said the neighbourhoods team will follow up with victims and work to identify those involved.
