WREXHAM AFC fans have described the last few years as "surreal" as the club celebrates back-to-back promotions.

The Reds celebrated promotion in style on Saturday, April 27 by beating league champions Stockport County.

It brought the curtain down on another incredible season at STōK Cae Ras - as Wrexham were promoted to League One in their first season back in the football league for 15 years.

Prior to the game, The Leader met fans (both new and old) to discuss a rollercoaster few years for the club following its takeover by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Such is the global-draw of Wrexham AFC, there were fans all the way from Texas and Nevada, as well as those who live down the road from the ground.

Reds fans Michael Hughes said: "What's happened over the last couple of years is nothing short of a miracle. From the time the owners took over until the present time - they have invested heavily and they've brought the city back to life.

"It's absolutely fantastic that we're into League One, and I'm really looking forward to the future and hopefully we'll be celebrating another promotion to the Championship. It's something I'd never expected to happen after what we've been through."

Alan Griffiths, a long-time season ticket holder, said: "If we didn't have these two guys (Rob and Ryan) we wouldn't be here.

"If someone had said to us when the club was battling to survive that in three or four years time we'd be in League One - no one would ever have believed you. It's surreal."

Wrexham fan Roger said: "I think this season everyone's priority was that we didn't go back down. I don't think anyone expected us to get top three. And now next season, let's just what happens. I'd be more than happy with a mid-table finish. If we get near the play-offs, or even managed to get into them would be incredible, but we need to be realistic.

"It seems crazy from where we were a few years ago, but lots of clubs that go up through the leagues - something happens to them, like new ownership and their fortunes can change very quickly.

"We're back to where the club used to be before all the rubbish started. I'm more optimistic than I've been for 20 years, it's marvellous and everyone's just enjoying the ride.

He added: "What Rob and Ryan have done for the community as a whole as well, it feels like a different place now. There's certainly a buzz about the place that I haven't seen for a long, long time."
