A woman has been charged with the murder of 90-year-old Myra Thompson who was found dead in her home on Bolde Way, Spital in Wirral earlier this week.

Detectives have charged Jane Hill, 51, of Norwich Drive, Upton, with murder.

She was also charged with the theft of £60, alleged to have been taken from Ms Thompson on April 12.

She has been remanded into custody.

A 48-year-old man from Wirral has been released with no further action in relation to the murder, however he remains under investigation for theft.

The body of Ms Thompson was discovered at her home on Tuesday, April 23.

She was a senior physicist at Clatterbridge Hospital before she retired.

Earlier this week, the force said it had voluntarily referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as officers had been investigating a recent allegation of theft.

One of Ms Thompson's neighbours, who asked to remain anonymous, described her as "highly-respected, kind, quiet and very self-content" adding that she was "reserved and content with her own company and a much-loved member of the community."
