A WOMAN is taking on the London Marathon in memory of her father in law who died from cancer.

Vicky Fitzgerald from Liverpool will be running over 26 miles in the London Marathon on Sunday, April 21 for Maggie’s Cancer Charity following the support her father-in-law, Tom, received during his diagnosis.

Tom was diagnosed in 2020 with a brain tumour before he passed away a year later in December 2021.

Now Vicky will take on the marathon challenge in his memory and to raise money for the charity who supported him.

Vicky said: “My father-in-law Tom was diagnosed in late 2020 with a brain tumour, and Maggie’s Wirral stepped in to support him.

“Tom found Maggie’s extremely helpful but sadly he passed away a year later in December 2021.

“As a family we are very grateful to Maggie’s for being there for Tom during the hardest of times, and that’s why I’ve decided to give something back, and take on this incredible challenge, in memory of my father-in-law.”

Kathy Wright, Centre Head at Maggie’s said: “We are extremely thankful to Vicky for taking on this huge challenge, and we wish her lots of luck.

“We will be cheering all our runners on this year with great gratitude, without people like Vicky we simply could not provide the cancer support to the thousands of visits we receive each year.

“It’s important that people know we’re here for anyone affected by cancer, and because bewildering changes not only affect the person with cancer, but also their family and friends, we offer our services to them as well. If you or anyone you know is struggling, please do just drop in.”
