A SPECIALIST needs school in Wirral has received a national recognition for its work in taking learning outside the classroom.

Orrets Meadow School is a specialist school on Chapelhill Road in Moreton for children with ASD and social communication difficulties.

Orrets has received national recognition for its commitment to taking learning outside the classroom (LOtC) and has been awarded the Gold LOtC Mark by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.

Miss MacGregor, Learning outside the classroom lead at Orrets Meadow School said: “We have developed our school ethos and created our own LOtC aims, ‘Let’s learn, play and grow together- inside and outside the classroom.

“Being awarded the Gold LOtC Mark is a fantastic achievement for all the staff here as it shows that we have really put in the work to ensure our students have access to vital opportunities to learn outside the classroom.

“We're thrilled to get official recognition for our efforts, and we look forward to continuing to embed LOtC within our school curriculum to help more students achieve their potential.

“All of our children have an EHCP and have a range of additional needs so we are constantly changing and adapting our curriculum to suit the needs of our fantastic children.”

The LOtC Mark is awarded by the council for Learning Outside the Classroom, a UK-wide charity that champions all learning that happens beyond the classroom.

Their work supports educators, schools and organisations to ensure more children and young people have opportunities for learning experiences beyond the classroom.

The many benefits of LOtC include improving academic attainment, physical health, emotional well-being, self-esteem, and resilience.

Dr Anne Hunt, Chief Executive of CLOtC said: “Learning outside the classroom has many proven educational benefits as well as providing some of the most memorable experiences in a child’s school life.

“Achieving the Gold LOtC Mark demonstrates that Orrets Meadow School is committed to developing and delivering genuinely valuable learning outside the classroom experiences for their children and young people and congratulate them on achieving this award.”
