Wirral mum to host Taylor Swift party for kids without concert tickets

Mum of three, Katy Walker, is putting on a Taylor Swift disco after she was unable to secure concert tickets for her two daughters Lucy, 14, and Immie, 10.

The global pop star will be performing at Anfield stadium in Liverpool for three nights on Thursday, June 13, Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15.

Katy, a private care worker from Saughall Massie, told the Globe: “Immie and Lucy are both huge fans of Taylor Swift and I, like a lot of other parents, had some disappointed children when I didn’t manage to get tickets for the Liverpool nights of her tour.

“So I decided instantly that I would do something to help other people in my situation and plan a local event on the same day for people to come and enjoy.”

On Saturday, June 15, Heswall Hall will be transformed into a Taylor Swift-themed event with all the money from the tickets going back into the event.

The 36-year-old said: “I decided to host a huge, Taylor Swift-themed party, a bit like a school disco, but the sound system only works with Taylor Swift songs.

“I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea but I knew I'd be able to sell out a party like this, as long as I kept the ticket prices low, chose an amazing venue, and promised a really fun atmosphere with some little treats and surprises for everyone. 

“I could have chosen a community centre which would have been a lot cheaper to but I wanted this to feel as glamorous and 'proper' as possible for the people buying tickets.”

The event will feature decorations, sound and lighting, a tuck shop, and merchandise for people to buy on the day. Eventgoers can also expect life-sized cut outs of Taylor Swift, friendship bracelet swaps, and more than two hours of listening, singing, and dancing to Taylor’s songs.

Katy said: “I launched the tickets through some Facebook posts and within a week they were 80% sold out, with only a few left now.

“The feedback from parents has been amazing, especially regarding the nonprofit element of it.

“Money from tickets is put into making the event as special as it can be, with any surplus being donated to 'Tomorrows Women Wirral' who have been chosen by a lovely group of ladies who are kindly volunteering their time on the day, called 'Heswall Ladies Circle'. They are a group for creating friendships amongst local women, through fundraising and activities. 

“This is a joint effort and is something which is growing and turning into a very special event.

“I'm not a professional event organiser, so this is very far from my day job but as a family we love to host big parties so it has been lot of fun so far. It should be an amazing family occasion and I'm pulling out all of the stops to make it as special as I can.”

Due to the popularity of the event, there are two start times available 4.00pm-6.30pm and 7pm-9.30pm. Both events will be the same and cost £10. You can buy tickets here.
