AN arrest has been made after a man was left with numerous broken bones in his face after a “terrifying and violent” attack at his home.

At around 4.20pm on Monday, March 25 it was reported that a 68-year-old man was seriously injured at his home on Stanley Close in Seacombe after he answered his front door to two men who attacked him during a burglary.

The man was taken to hospital with a broken jaw, cheek bone and eye socket as a result of the attack.

No items were stolen during the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify these two men and police are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

One of the suspects was described as wearing a dark coloured zip up jacket, with a white L on the chest panel and was wearing his hood up. He wore black trousers with grey trainers, had a short beard and stubble and looked 25-35 years of age.

The other suspect is described as wearing a dark-coloured panelled jacket with his hood up. He also wore black north face gloves and black trousers with dark-coloured trainers. He was of average height and medium build.

Merseyside Police have today (Monday, April 15) confirmed that a 30-year-old man from Egremont was arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident.

He has been bailed and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Andrew Schofield said: “This was a terrifying and violent attack on a man who was left inside his home with several injuries.

“Nobody has the right to force entry into someone’s property, and it is dreadful to think that this victim was then assaulted by these men when they knocked on his door.

“Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home, without the fear of being targeted in this way, and I want to reassure the community that we will do everything we can to identify who was responsible and bring them to justice.
