DETECTIVES investigating a rape in Liverpool city centre have released CCTV images of a man who they believe could assist with their enquiries.

At around 1.50am on Friday, April 12, officers attended St John’s Gardens in Liverpool city centre where they found a 16-year-old girl who had been the victim of an assault by an unknown man.

The girl is being supported by specially trained officers while an investigation is underway.

Officers have issued CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to as they believe he could assist with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Carla Cross said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing and we have issued CCTV images of a man we believe could assist us. We would encourage the man, or anyone who recognises him, to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“It is important that people who live, work and socialise in Liverpool city centre feel safe and we will hope that our high visibility patrols will assist with that.

“I would always encourage members of the public to engage with our officers and report any suspicious or unusual activity so we can take immediate action.”
