VISITORS to Wirral's beaches are being warned of the dangers of getting stuck in the mud after two people were rescued in Leasowe Bay.

At around 5.30pm on Tuesday (April 9), Wirral Coastguard Team was alerted to a report of two people stuck in the mud near rocks on an area of beach behind Leasowe Golf Club.

On arrival the team liaised with RNLI Wirral Lifeguards who were already on scene. It was confirmed the two people in question had crawled out of the mud and were now walking off the beach.

Thankfully both were not injured and could make their own way home.

Wirral Coastguard and HM Coastguard Crosby were involved in the operation.

A warning message on Wirral Coastguard Team's Facebook page read: "Please be aware there are patches of mud surrounding the rocks on the beach behind Leasowe Golf Club/Leasowe Castle Hotel

"If you do get stuck: Stay calm, avoid moving too much and spread your weight by sitting down - this will stop you sinking further.

"Discourage people from trying to rescue you as they may get stuck to Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
