THE family of a Wirral man who died after jumping from a bridge in Australia have said they are “incredibly overwhelmed” after reaching their fundraising target to bring his body home.

Joshua Santos Christian, 32, is reported to have jumped from the Noosa Sound Bridge in Queensland on Sunday, March 24.

Jumping from the landmark, which is popular with thrill seekers, had recently been "strictly prohibited" because of construction work ongoing beneath.

He had been with a group of friends who had also been jumping from the popular tourist attraction.

Emergency services were called when he failed to resurface and his body was recovered by police divers at around 6am, five hours later.

The devastated family and friends of Joshua set up a fundraising page to help repatriate his body from Brisbane back to his home in Wirral so he could be laid to rest at Landican Crematorium in Birkenhead.

The fundraising page, which had a target of £27,000, has since raised £27,753.

The family and friends of Joshua said they were “incredibly overwhelmed” by the donations.

A statement posted on the GoFundMe page read: “We have received support at an extremely fast rate and are all incredibly overwhelmed with joy to see the generosity from everyone.

“Eternally grateful to you all, a true testament to how many hearts Joshua has touched and how loved he was and will always be.

“This really has helped bring warmth to our broken hearts.

“Arrangements can start being confirmed with the funeral directors. Any extra funds will be used to support his loved ones in Australia coming to the Wirral for the funeral.

“Following that a large function will be held in his memory.

“As dates and arrangements are confirmed we will try our hardest to keep you all informed.”
